A Message from the JCR President
St. Aidan's College is one of Durham's largest and most vibrant colleges, located above the city centre within easy reach of the rest of the University. We are a genuine community which encourages students to make the most of University life and achieve their potential not only academically, but also in developing life skills many other graduates would envy. Key to this is the incredible range of opportunities to get involved in the running of everything from the shop, to our legendary social events, societies and sports teams; hence our amazing sense of college spirit.
We offer sporting opportunities at all levels: for serious commitment, such as our trophy winning sides, or simply playing for fun and the social scene. Our dynamic theatre group, ACT, has a broad repertoire, including an annual play and an infamous pantomime, written by members of the cast. Added to this we have a college choir, Jazz Band, and a film club which aims to take you beyond the standard multiplex fare.
All this is achieved in a college with impressive facilities and amenities. You might live in one of our en-suite rooms, or a recently refurbished shared room complete with personal fridges, or a standard single room. Every student in college has a personal full internet connection.
An impressive fitness suite and a music room have enhanced our resources, which include our spacious, 24 hour, scenic library, non-denominational chapel and interconnecting suites of public rooms.
The body of college surrounds beautiful grounds which are used for relaxation throughout the year and become a hive of activity in the summer months.
Aidan's is one of the more relaxed and down to earth colleges which means that we do not have a "typical" student. This diversity of interests and backgrounds adds to the vibrancy and friendliness of the place. We look for students who will maintain Durham's high academic tradition by working hard, but also make the most of their leisure and play hard. People have made Aidan's what it is; we invite you to continue this.
